Among Seattle's best-known annual cultural events and fairs are the 24-day Seattle International Film Festival, Northwest Folklife over the Memorial Day weekend, numerous Seafair events throughout the summer months, the Bite of Seattle, Bumbershoot over the Labor Day weekend and numerous ethnic festivals associated with Festal at Seattle Center. Seattle is also home to well over 100 commercial art galleries, at least a dozen non-profit art galleries.

The schools in Seattle have maintained high enough educational standards to keep white flight to a minimum. The public school system in the city is supplemented by a moderate number of private schools: five of the high schools are Catholic, one is Lutheran, and six are secular. Among universities in Seattle the most prominent universities are Seattle University, a Jesuit university, and Seattle Pacific University.

Seattle, Washington is surrounded by various wonderful neighborhoods. Due to the city's increased popularity in recent years, Seattle housing prices run on the high end. New residents can find affordable housing options in more outlying, up-and-coming neighborhoods, as well as suburbs on the outskirts of the city.
